Windsurfing in Jameos del Agua

A spot for experienced surfers in Lanzarote

The windsurfing spot of Jameos del Agua is located in the north of Lanzarote, right under the tourist centre of the same name and the Cueva de los Verdes (Green Caves). It is a protected landscape of great beauty, as well as a spot for experienced windsurfers. In Jameos del Agua, where northeast trade winds are most prevalent, we find one of the best left hand waves on the island. It’s long and fast with hollow barrels and up to three metres in height.

Consistent wind next to Jameos del Agua all year round

Entry into the water is somewhat complicated especially at high tide given that it is on a rocky volcanic bottom. Even though it is a good all year round spot due to its consistent winds, windsurfing conditions are even better between April and September. You can get there on foot from the car park at the Jameos del Agua tourist centre or you can also access it using a 4x4 only and when the vehicle gate leading to the beach is open.

Sustainability

Never leave waste of any type lying around, including cigarette butts. Leftover food leads to a proliferation of rats and wild cats, which pose a serious threat to the fauna.
Do not throw any waste or other objects into the sea.
Respect the animals. Do not bother them or feed them. If you see an injured specimen, you can call the emergency number: 112. Do not pick flowers or plants.
Do not pick up or take away stones or any other item from the natural environment. And do not move them to pile them up into sadly famous 'towers'.
Try to use ocean- friendly sun creams.
