Mazo

A tourist town with an artisan flavour

In the south-east of La Palma you will find the best craft and tourist centre in the island, Villa de Mazo. There you will discover a range of traditional crafts such as its famous embroidery, and the town also boasts the greatest number of registered craft workers on the island. The small old town centre is a pleasant place to stroll through – you get a real taste of La Palma’s history and tradition crossing the town’s cobbled streets.

Tourist attractions in Villa de Mazo

Just a few minutes from the island’s airport, Villa de Mazo has a range of attractions for visitors. The main square is surrounded by delightful old buildings, such as the Town Hall. The artisan traditions can be seen in the Casa Roja, where you can purchase locally made goods. A network of well-signposted walks takes visitors through the Cumbre Vieja National Park, and it would really be worth your while to visit the archaeological park and cave of Belmaco, where you can lose yourself in the cave paintings and learn much more about La Palma’s aboriginal past.

Sustainability
Sostenibilidad
  • Never leave waste of any type lying around, including cigarette butts. Leftover food leads to a proliferation of rats and wild cats, which pose a serious threat to the fauna.
  • Do not throw any waste or other objects into the sea.
  • Respect the animals. Do not bother them or feed them. If you see an injured specimen, you can call the emergency number: 112. Do not pick flowers or plants.
  • Do not pick up or take away stones or any other item from the natural environment. And do not move them to pile them up into sadly famous 'towers'.
  • Respect and look after the area's historic and cultural heritage, along with the different items of public furniture (information panels, railings, seats, lighting, etc.).
