(CACT) Islote de Fermina

An oasis in the middle of the bay

Located right in front of the bay of Arrecife, on the island of Lanzarote, it was in the 1970s when the Canarian artist César Manrique turned this land of more than 14,000 square meters into a recreational oasis. Among the benefits that can be found in this space of water, vegetation and ample white spaces, there is a 3,600 square meter swimming pool, still to be opened, multipurpose rooms and a solarium. In addition, the center has a cafeteria, with large windows overlooking the bay, offering a varied menu of snacks and drinks.

Fermina, a pioneer with her own shipyard

Islote de Fermina takes its name from Fermina García Santana, a pioneer shipbuilder who in 1918 obtained an administrative concession to set up a shipyard on what was then called Islote del Quebrado. Access to the complex is on foot via a walkway located in the Islas Canarias park in Arrecife. It is important to note that no pets, bicycles, scooters or vehicles are allowed to pass. Admission is free and visiting hours are from 10:00 to 17:00. It is expected that in the future the complex will also house an Interpretation Center for the Bay of Arrecife and a UN Climate Change Observatory.
