Viera y Clavijo Botanical Garden

Visit Spain’s biggest botanical garden

The Guiniguada ravine cuts through an area of Gran Canaria so beautiful that it is remembered by all visitors. The Jardín Botánico Viera y Clavijo, or Canary Gardens, is the largest in Spain and one of the world’s best. A walk through its 27 hectares of gardens filled with the rich and spectacular plants of the Canary Islands is a tranquil and fascinating experience. Located in Gran Canaria’s capital Las Palmas in the northeast of the island it protects over 500 species of indigenous plants, many in danger of extinction, and plenty of spectacular exotic plants.

Canary Garden with thousands of cactus, dragon trees and palms

Swedish founder Eric Sventenius is buried within the gardens surrounded by his dream: A paradise dedicated to the conservation of the rich and spectacular flora of the Canary Islands. The gardens open every day of the year and consist of 7,000 square metres full of palms, pine trees and succulents. Highlights include the collection of exotic palm trees, the collection of over 2000 cactus and succulents, the display of Canarian and Macaronesian species and the surprising laurel forest.
