Cenobio de Valerón

The huge granary of Valerón gorge

North Gran Canaria is home to one of the most spectacular archaeological sites in the Canary Islands due to its huge size: The Cenobio de Valeron. This giant communal granary was used by the pre-Hispanic Canarians to store their staple food. It consists of over 300 grain silos cut into the soft rock and linked on several levels. It’s was a significant engineering feat and worth a visit due to its cultural and historical value to Gran Canaria.

Visiting the Cenobio de Valerón

The site has been prepared for visits and charges an entrance fee. It is open from Tuesday to Sunday. Visitors can explore on their own or take a guided tour in their preferred language (provided that there is a group of at least 10 and a reservation). There is parking and a route through the site with panels and explanations of the features. At the entrance there’s a small shop selling souvenirs and typical local products.
