La Palma: the Most Zen Island

The beautiful island offers unique spots by the sea, in the mountains and among volcanoes to meditate and live in the moment.

The blue sky, the silence, endless trails through the forest, spaces in the mountains above the Sea of Clouds, lost beaches of black sand, or alone with the sea. La Palma is the zen island par excellence recognized by UNESCO as a Biosphere Reserve.

Being one of the youngest islands of the Canary archipelago, La Palma exudes a calm energy that allows you to fully connect with the present moment. This makes it the ideal place for meditation, since it offers a great variety of corners where peace reigns. But, in addition to its natural beauty, La Palma is home to historical sites rich in life and culture that invite you to enjoy and explore.

With a magical name, the Llano de las Brujas, in El Paso, offers a landscape in black, green and different shades of brown. Any elevated mound in this area offers a refuge where only the soft breeze and the murmur of the pine branches on the ancient lava can be heard.

In Isla Bonita there is also the possibility of meditating at the top of the crater of a volcano with a half a century of silence, or relaxing between farms; the endemic birds of La Palma - and their eventual squawks. To do so, there is nothing better than approaching the mountains that border the Caldera de Taburiente National Park and the area known as Cumbre Vieja, in El Paso, which allows you to admire the spectacle of nature and all the strength emanatating from it.

The Roque de Los Muchachos, in Garafía, is also an ideal place to disconnect. Considered the highest point of the island at 2,420 meters, not only the stars can be "touched with the hands" in this place , but it is also possible to contemplate the wonderful sea of clouds typical of the area. For astronomy lovers, this area is home to the Roque de Los Muchachos Astrophysical Observatory, composed of telescopes from several countries, one of the most important windows to the universe in the world.

The ravine and forest of Los Tilos, in San Andrés y Sauces, and the surroundings of the Las Mimbreras road, which connects Garafía and Barlovento, preserve the most important laurel forests in the Canary Islands. This tree from the Tertiary Era covers all the walls of the deep ravines and canyons of this part of the island.

La Punta de Los Roques, Bejenado Peak and La Caldera de Taburiente National Park are places for hiking in which exuberant nature is mixed with nooks, crannies and spaces at height.

With nature close to every municipality, staying in environments with positive energy to fill you with inner peace is one of the privileges of visiting this island. In the surroundings of the sanctuary of the Virgen de las Nieves, in Santa Cruz de La Palma, where there is a pine forest, the walks from the capital are such a beautiful experience that the spirit is serene and full of energy.

The hamlet of El Tablado, in Garafía, or the fishing village of La Salemera, in Villa de Mazo, are places where people live at a slow pace, greet their neighbors, stroll and meditate in solitude over the infinite green. Moreover, the area of the dragon trees of Buracas in Las Tricias, Garafía, offers a landscape full of bunches of these trees that reflect the life, the centuries, in their flowering fingers. Some can be found to be hundreds of years old.

The surroundings of the Ermita de El Pino, in El Paso, offer a unique forest bordering La Caldera de Taburiente National Park. With sunsets of all colors, the Aridane Valley also has, on the other side, paths of chestnut and pine trees in which to shelter from the hustle and bustle of citylife, the clock and all distractions other than living the moment. So are the surroundings of the old church of San Mauro, in Puntagorda. It is isolated in the middle of nature, full of energy.

Finally, Playa de Nogales, in Puntallana, synthesizes much of what Isla Bonita has to offer: mountains, trails, lava, ocean and greenery.
