27 April 2025
The Romería in honor of Saint Mark the Evangelist is a prominent festival held on the last Sunday of April in the Tenerife town of Tegueste. Since 1969, this celebration has become one of the most attended in the Canary Archipelago, attracting thousands of people who join the procession of the saint alongside decorated carts pulled by teams of cattle. The carts, prepared over several months, are adorned with grains and seeds and symbolize the history and culture of Tegueste. The following day features the Day of the Carretaro, showcasing the carts and offering food and drinks to visitors. The Romería de San Marcos is not only one of the most significant festivals in Tenerife but also one of the most eagerly anticipated, marking the beginning of a festive calendar that extends through the summer.
