Reenactment of the Feat of July 25

Every year, Santa Cruz de Tenerife commemorates the feat of July 25, 1797, with a reenactment of the attempted conquest by British Commander Horatio Nelson, who sought to capture the capital city in pursuit of great wealth. However, Horatio Nelson failed in his attempt. Thus, the battle is annually recreated to preserve and honor a significant event in the history of the Canary Islands that shapes their identity and idiosyncrasy.
