January 2025
The La Florida district in La Orotava is celebrating its annual festivities in honour of Saint Anthony Abbot and the Virgin of Hope in the last week of January. These festivities, recognised as Fiestas of Tourist Interest on the Canary Islands, offer a unique experience that combines religious events and popular traditions.
One of the highlights of these celebrations is a unique gastronomy event: the Traditional Canary Islands Puchero. This is the largest and most exquisite stew that is prepared in the entire archipelago, requiring more than 60 large stainless steel pots, each of which can hold more than 100 kilos of stew. The ingredients include more than 7,000 kilos of produce, including cabbages, pumpkins, onions, zucchini, leeks, carrots, potatoes, gofio (a type of roasted and ground grain flour), various meats and firewood for cooking.
This feast is enjoyed by thousands of people who gather to savour this delight while participating in the festivities. The Parranda del Puchero band adds a special touch to this gastronomy experience, transforming it into a well-established tourist attraction that captivates visitors and offers a unique opportunity to engage in the culture and traditions of the region.
