October 2025
La Librea - Festivals in Honor of La Virgen del Rosario is a celebration held on the first Saturday of October in Valle de Guerra, commemorating the victory of the Holy League over the Turks in the Battle of Lepanto (1571) and the triumphant return of the Canarians led by Captain Francisco Díaz Pimienta. The tradition, which dates back over 400 years, was formalized in 1720 with the establishment of the village chapel. The main event features an allegorical reenactment of the battle, where local actors portray key figures such as Don Juan of Austria and Ali Pasha, culminating in a Christian victory and the appearance of Our Lady of the Rosary. Originally associated with the soldiers and their pre-combat parade, this symbolic and ritualized representation was declared a Local Cultural Heritage in 2007, cementing its significance in the cultural tradition of Valle de Guerra.
