29 November 2024
The "Fiesta del Cacharro y la Castaña," also popularly known as "Correr los Cacharros," is a traditional celebration in honor of San Andrés held in Puerto de la Cruz. This event takes place at dusk on November 29, when locals gather in Plaza del Charco armed with pots and old utensils tied with wires. The festival is characterized by the loud noise created by clashing these objects, producing a festive and boisterous atmosphere. The celebration culminates with the tasting of roasted chestnuts and other traditional Canarian foods such as sweet potatoes, cherne (a type of fish), mashed gofio (a type of flour), and local wine, offering a unique experience that blends tradition, flavor, and community.
