August 2025
The celebrations in honor of Nuestra Señora de Candelaria are an iconic event in the Canary Islands, held twice a year: on February 2nd and August 15th. The August festival, known as "the fiesta of the locals," attracts large crowds and has a strong connection to Guanche tradition. For about ten days, the Basilica and Plaza de la Patrona are filled with activities, processions, and pilgrimages that traverse the island, culminating in the historic Guanche Ceremony. This event, which reenacts the discovery of the Virgin, is the highlight of the festivities. Additionally, the celebration includes cultural activities such as the Opening Ceremony, institutional wrestling, and concerts, solidifying its importance in Canary Island identity.
