Las Burras de Güímar is a traditional event of the Carnival, revived in 1992, inspired by legends about witches who transform into donkeys to carry out spells. The celebration begins with the procession of the Burial of the Sardine, where widows and peasants make their way to the square of San Pedro and are surprised by creatures in the form of donkeys, who attack upon discovering that they are witches. These witches invoke the demon, initiating a revelry, accompanied by little devils and Baulén, an aristocrat. The Holy Inquisition, led by the Bishop, calls upon the Archangel Michael to fight against the demon, who is ultimately defeated, and the witches are burned at the stake. The festivities are beautiful because they combine tradition, creativity, and community, creating an atmosphere of joy.
