23 June 2025
According to tradition, fire has the power to drive away evil spirits and purify the soul. The Noche de San Juan, one of the shortest nights of the year on 23 June, is one of the most eagerly awaited festivities by people of all ages. On this night, firecrackers explode endlessly, surprising many, and bonfires, fuelled with all kinds of flammable materials such as wood and cardboard, rise majestically into the sky. Fascinated by the enchantment of the flames, children, young and old have gathered around the fire since ancient times, dancing, laughing, singing and, the bravest, even jumping over the embers. This celebration takes place both on the island of La Graciosa and in the rest of the archipelago.
