3 May to 26 July
The Fundación MAPFRE Canarias presents an exhibition paying tribute to the extensive career of Juan José Gil, a prominent member of the Generation of the 70s. The show offers a selection of works that reflect his absolute dedication to artistic creation. For the first time, these pieces from different periods engage in a dialogue outside his studio, revealing his universal and poetic perspective on island memory. Through series such as "La casa," "Paraislas," and "Fragmentos de la isla San Borondón," Gil speculates on both imaginary and real landscapes, using the sea, the island, and the house as central elements of his artistic expression. His work also explores geometry, color, and texture, ranging from two-dimensional paintings to three-dimensional installations, showcasing a unique ability to integrate the classical with the abstract. With a notable presence in galleries, museums, and international collections, Juan José Gil continues to leave an indelible mark on contemporary art.
