The "Fiesta del Charco de La Aldea" revives an ancient pre-Hispanic tradition at the mouth of the Barranco de La Aldea, on the island of Gran Canaria. This unique event celebrates the ancestral technique of fish poisoning, locally known as embarbascar, which was carried out in the historic pool "La Marciega." In ancient times, this technique involved using natural substances to stun the fish, thereby making their capture easier. Today, the festival transforms this ancient practice into a cultural celebration, highlighting the valuable legacy and customs of the ancient Canarian people. Throughout the day, attendees have the opportunity to experience the richness of Canarian traditions through a series of activities and demonstrations, all within a festive and commemorative atmosphere that honors the historical roots of the region.
