August 2025
The Fiesta del Pino is a religious and festive celebration that takes place from August 30 to September 8 in Teror, Gran Canaria, in honor of Nuestra Virgen del Pino, the patroness of the island. Its origins date back to the 16th century when petitions were made due to a lack of rain. The devotion began on September 8, 1481, with the appearance of the Virgin on a huge pine tree, leading to the construction of a basilica in her honor. On September 5, the Virgen is brought down from her chapel to the main nave of the Basilica, allowing the faithful to come closer to her. Two days later, on September 7, the Romería del Pino is celebrated, a colorful procession that gathers participants from all municipalities of the island and from the different islands of the Canary archipelago. This festival is a moment of deep devotion and community celebration.
