Walk around Valle Gran Rey and visit to the Palmarejo viewpoint

A walk around Valle Gran Rey

The port of Las Vueltas, the destination of some of the cruise ships that come to La Gomera, is located beside the tourist resort of Valle Gran Rey, which still retains a quiet, bohemian atmosphere where visitors and residents rub shoulders. Located at the bottom of the canyon of the same name, with impressive vertical walls and lush palm groves, the best thing about this place is its beaches, the constantly-sunny weather and the restaurants with views of the sea.

Visit to the Palmarejo viewpoint, designed by César Manrique

High up, the Palmarejo viewpoint offers spectacular views of the canyon and the coast, which comprises a protected rural space of great ecological value. The viewpoint is the work of the Canarian artist César Manrique, famous for his ability to connect art, architecture and nature. The gardens of the installation feature numerous indigenous plants of the valley, like the Canary Island date palm, from which the delicious palm honey is obtained, a product used in several traditional dishes. To reach it, an approximately 15-minute trip by car or bus is required.

Sustainability
Sostenibilidad
  • Never leave waste of any type lying around, including cigarette butts. Leftover food leads to a proliferation of rats and wild cats, which pose a serious threat to the fauna.
  • Use the waste- paper baskets and, insofar as possible, separate and place your recycling waste in the appropriate containers.
  • Do not throw any waste or other objects into the sea.
  • Respect the animals. Do not bother them or feed them. If you see an injured specimen, you can call the emergency number: 112. Do not pick flowers or plants.
  • Do not pick up or take away stones or any other item from the natural environment. And do not move them to pile them up into sadly famous 'towers'.
  • In natural spaces and at viewpoints, do not leave the trail or the spaces designated for people to be in.
  • Respect and look after the area's historic and cultural heritage, along with the public furniture and items for visitors, such as information panels or telescopes and binoculars.
