Climbing in Arico

The most popular climbing area in the Canaries

If there is a place that brings together a large amount of climbing sectors in one small space, it's Arico. This municipality in the south-east of Tenerife is home to the most popular climbing areas of the Canary Islands. Criss-crossed by pine forests and deep ravines, it is ideal for lovers of this sport and has more than 500 well-appointed routes covering all levels of difficulty – predominantly intermediate - and with a maximum height of 35 metres.

Bouldering in the Ortiz ravine

Bouldering enthusiasts should visit the Ortiz ravine, one of the most suitable locations on the island to practice the sport. The El Río ravine, without doubt, is one of the best places in Tenerife for difficult climbing, as its walls are predominantly of ignimbrite volcanic rock, completely scored by lines. Both practices can be done year round due to the fantastic climate found at the site, but should you be unlucky with the weather conditions, there is a small area of Porís de Abona where you can climb.
