Rare is the case when someone who has been to the Canary Islands has returned without a smile on his/her face. You will probably tell everyone that you were fascinated by the landscapes, that you loved the gastronomy, that you enjoyed the leisure activities, that you appreciated the friendly treatment from the people of the Canaries...that is why any visit always becomes an unforgettable experience. But, of course, it is impossible not to notice and neither invisible. The climate is the greatest attraction when choosing the Islands as your destination. Among the factors that influence one’s choice, the climate represents 90%. This is because the Canary Islands can boast of having the best climate in the world.

But what do we mean when we talk about “the world’s best climate”?

This is due to stable and pleasant temperatures all year round, mild winters and summers, with an average of 22 and 26 degrees Celsius respectively, far from the extreme temperatures that dominate the continent. It could almost be described as an eternal spring, with long, clear days and some 3,000 hours of sunshine a year, making the Canary Islands the sunniest place in Europe.

It is this climate that, to summarize, influences the landscapes, is reflected in the gastronomy, allows the practice of all types of outdoor activities and has a positive influence on the good mood of the people who live in the Canary Islands. It is a climate that, being present even though it seems not to be, enhances any moment and is decisive in the quality of life of inhabitants and tourists. Because scientific studies show that climate has a direct impact on our physical and emotional well-being.

Speaking of scientific studies, there is a reason for saying that the Canary Islands have the best climate in the world. Thomas Whitmore, director of climate research at Syracuse University (USA), published one reason in Consumer Travel Publications in 1996, entitled “Indices of the Most Pleasant Climates”, in which he placed the Canary Islands at the top. To reach this conclusion, he offered comparative weather statistics from more than 600 locations around the world: rainy days per year, air temperature, water temperature...

The secret of this privileged meteorological jackpot is the location of the Canary Islands, in a transition area that leaves them exposed to the effect of the trade winds that cool the atmosphere, as well as to the influence of the cold Canary current that bathes their coasts. The anticyclones in the Azores, on the other hand, prevents temperatures from falling in winter.

And if the Canary Islands have the best climate in the world, endorsed by a scientific study, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria can boast of being the city with the best climate in the world, according to the Australian portal Traveller. In the article “The Best Climates in the World: Top Cities with Perfect Weather That Can Be Visited All Year Round” written by David Whitley in November 2016, other cities appear such as San Diego (California, USA), Viña del Mar (Chile), Adelaide (South Africa), Yuma (Arizona, USA) and Swakopmund (Namibia).
